DESCRIPTION
OF THE REGION
The village of Champallement perches on a hill overlooking
the fields and forests of the region. It surrounds a green
square planted with old trees of which a centuries old lime
tree. It is surrounded by a few forests.
The
château of Champallement and its surroudings are located on
the border of the village and have the most beautiful view
over the country and the hills of the Morvan.
Champallement is of great historic interest
with its Gallo-Roman site of Compierre situated only one kilometre
from the village. It is possible to visit it for free and
since the summer of 2003, guided visits are organised once
a month. It is the ideal location for walking enthusiasts
as this tranquil area is situated in the heart of an area
of spectacular natural beauty.
For sport lovers, there is a tennis
court in Brinon-sur-Beuvron 6km away; horse
riding is possible only 5/6km away.
It is possible to rent and/or take sailing
and windsurfing lessons at the lake of Vaux
15km away and it is possible to swim in different
lakes in the area.
Bicycles are available on the spot. There is also a table
tennis and a baby foot.
Anglers can fish for a few Euros in the local
lake.
There are a few hundred kilometres of circuits organised for
mountain bikes. If you are feeling intrepid
you can go rafting in the Morvan park. (see

Every week-end there are many flea markets in the villages
and towns around the village where local people sell their
antiques and souvenirs. Every week in Corbigny, Brinon-sur-Beuvron
and other towns there are local markets where
you can buy products from the region. The flea market in Champallement
is usually organised on one of the first Sundays of July and
on the 14th of July, the National hollyday, there is a meal
which gathers all the inhabitants and guests of the village.
The day ends with a fire work displaid either in front of
the château or over the lake.
For wine amateurs, Champallement is located
in the middle of renowned vineyards such as Sancerres, Chablis,
Pouilly-sur-Loire and less than 20km from Les Caves Tannaysiennes
witch date back to the XVIth century and which are worth a
little detour
And for guests who just want to rest, Champallement is a haven
of peace and beauty. You can just sit and admire the nature
in front of you.

Perched less than 45km away is the splendid medieval town of Vézelay with its basilica and its charming little streets. Not far from the town the small church of Saint-Père sous Vézelay is worth the detour as well as the château de Bazoches owned by the Vauban family heirs of the famous general.
Not far from Vézelay is Clamecy another medieval town well known in old times for the gathering of fire wood which was sent to Paris by flotation. A feast is organised in the middle of August to commemorate the event. You can also visit the museum where some vestiges from the site of Compierre are displayed. More towns worth visiting are Tannay, 20km away, a friendly small town and Nevers, the "préfecture" and its cathedral. If you want to know more about the other monuments in Nevers, you can see them by following a blue line marked on the foot path. La Charité-sur-Loire, town of books will give you the pleasure of living "La France".
For
Formula 1 enthusiasts, Champallement is located 45km from
Magny-Court where the French Grand Prix is staged.
The region is well known for its gastronomy and you will find,
within 15/20 kms a few nice restaurants of good quality.
